  • Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology, Minor in Music (Occidental College)

  • Advanced skills in orthopedic manual therapy; joint mobilization, IASTM/Graston, dry needling, Blood-Flow Restriction, and bike fit.

Alberto thought he had left bike racing behind but found a way to continue getting into trouble with duathlons, triathlons, and the odd marathon.

Continuing Education Courses

  • Graston Technique M-1 Training: Graston Technique (GT) therapy is an advanced form of instrument-assisted, soft tissue mobilization, which incorporates the use of six specially designed stainless steel instruments. GT therapy enables clinicians to effectively treat the adverse effects of scar tissue and fascial restrictions as well as improve and maintain optimal range of motion.

  • Biomechanical Services: The Foot’s Connected Too…: A clinical course to help improve your knowledge of foot function and how it affects movements and forces throughout the lower half of the body.

  • Biomechanical Services: When The Feet Hits the Ground….: 2-day lab-based course designed to teach basic foot and ankle biomechanics and determine how those relationships affect lower extremity function from the great toe to the spine.

  • Dartfish Video Gait analysis: Using Dartfish Motion Analysis software to assess patient gait patterns

  • Clinical Bike Fit Process:  Addresses specifically how to adjust the contact points of the bike to the individual variation seen within a patient.

  • BikeFit: The Foot/Pedal Interface: In-depth, step by step, graphical process of fitting the most important contact point on the bicycle, the foot-pedal interface.

  • Science of Running Symposium: This evidence-based symposium will bring together top clinical researchers in the field of biomechanics to discuss and debate contemporary topics related to running biomechanics, running-related injuries, and the rehabilitation of the injured runner.

  • DePaul University Sports Medicine Symposium: The Endurance Athlete: This program brings together an outstanding faculty of leaders in sports medicine to discuss some of the most challenging topics facing those working with athletes at all levels.

  • Matheson Functional Capacity Evaluation: The Matheson FCE Certification Program takes place over 4 full days with 3 days of lecture combined with practice and documentation experience and culminates in students performing FCE’s in small groups with the clinical support of Internationally recognized instructors to help participants realize skills at a higher level.

  • OccuPro Functional Capacity/Return to Work: Three-day training designed for professionals who are looking to implement a workers' comp/return-to-work rehab program.

  • Bike Fit U: Bike Fit U, the “free university” for Bike Fitters, hosted by the Philly Bike Expo: Conceived as an education program to facilitate discussions for working bike fitters as both presenters and participants through presentations, panels, and breakout sessions. Fill-in presenter for “Bike Fitting: not just for bike racers” Seminar.

  • Functional Dry Needling: Comprehensive training in dry needling via lab, group and self-study, and didactic discussions throughout upper extremities, lower extremities, and spine; In accordance with State of Illinois certification guidelines.

  • Smart Cuffs Level 1 Blood Flow Restriction (BFR): Blood Flow Restriction rehabilitation (BFR) is a powerful tool for improving strength, hypertrophy, and endurance changes while using very light load within a small space.

  • Clinical Gross Anatomy: Dissection of Upper Limb and Back  An in-depth review of clinically relevant anatomy of the upper extremity and back by participating in active cadaveric dissection, review of prosected specimens and focused case-centered discussion.

  • Clinical Gross Anatomy: Dissection of Lower Limb and Pelvis An in-depth review of clinically relevant anatomy of the lower extremity and pelvis by participating in active cadaveric dissection, review of prosected specimens and focused case-centered discussion.

  • Mulligan Manual Therapy Concept: Upper Quadrant Mobilization with Movement A comprehensive and in-depth approach to manual therapy for the cervical and thoracic spines in addition to the upper extremity.

A note from Dr. Alberto…

Dr. Alberto Segura Jr PT

I always knew I wanted to do something in health care, but I growing up I thought it would be as an MD. I envisioned myself spending time with my patients, helping them through whatever ailed them. As I grew older and got into sports (and found various ways to get injured!), I found more and more that it wasn’t the MD’s that gave me the experience I was looking to give others, but primarily physical therapists and practitioners like them. So I pivoted and got myself on the path that led me here!

Along the way, I’ve seen quite a few different sides of physical therapy and loved almost all of it, whether it be sports injuries, work injuries, wound care (chronic and post-surgical), joint replacements, pediatrics, or finally getting rid of that pain that just keeps coming back. I love helping people understand what’s going on with their bodies, and avoid future issues.

I try to direct my care towards helping people live the lives they want to live, and educating them on how to maintain their bodies. Sometimes it’s the runner or cyclist freaking out because their event is coming up and don’t know if they can do it, or high school athlete not wanting to miss out. Sometimes it’s older folks wondering how they’re going to get around and keep living on their own. Sometimes it’s the injured worker trying to rediscover their new normal. We all end up with our own challenges, and I love helping people meet those challenges.

I look forward to helping you get back on your path!
